"Stephanie Sanchez negotiated the pants role of Prince Orlofsky with an easy panache. Ms. Sanchez possesses a ripe, throbbing, womanly mezzo, so it is no small feat that she was able to bend it into service to suggest a bored young male character. Her/his party piece, Chacun a son gout was craftily vocalized, but it was when she could really let her voice roll out that we were treated to a major talent."
Ms. Sanchez's 2019/2020 season included role debuts as Hansel and Azucena, and a return to Orlofsky as a resident artist with Opera San José. She also anticipated debuts as Farzana in Wagner's first opera, Die Feen, in her return to The Glimmerglass Festival, Dritte Dame with Opera San José, and Alto Soloist in Beethoven's Symphony No. 9; all canceled/postponed due to COVID-19. Stephanie joins Opera Theatre of Saint Louis this fall as a Digital Studio Artist where she will sing Ruth in Pirates of Penzance.
Ms. Sanchez has performed everything from iconic trouser roles to florid bel canto roles to the juicy Germanic repertoire. Enjoy this contemporary aria by Jonathan Dove here and more below.
